Films, photography and poetry mark NEEM’s annual environmental fest

Manipal Institute of Communication's environmental club, the Network of Eco-Explorers, Manipal (NEEM) held its annual environmental fest, GAIA, 2012 recently. The fest featured seminars by social activists Ms. Vidya Dinker and Mr. Natesh Ullal together with film screenings; nature photography and poetry competitions; a short play and a shadow dance all centered round the theme "water."
The inaugural function began with the planting of a sapling. This was followed by a seminar on Mangalore’s SEZ by Ms. Vidya Dinker. There was a talk by filmmaker and social activist Mr. Natesh Ullal. The closing ceremony also featured a play by MIC's theatre club, Kala Manch and a shadow dance performed by NEEM club members.
NEEM is MIC's environmental club that works towards spreading awareness on environmental issues. Its activities include tree plantation drives, conducting seminars and workshops, film screenings on environmental problems, field trips and other environmentally-sensitive activities.
